Me? BANNED? LoL.
I think I'm Michael Jordan. And nah, I didn't just jump out of a "NBA2K11" coma (i'm on it though.. don't get it twisted.) The unveiling of the above "Banned" version of the Air Jordan 1s took my headspace to about 6 or 7 years ago when I too was the (intended) victim of a BBall attempt. That's "BLACKBall" for all you suckaz!
Now, some of you may be way too young to remember or just never knew that during the Mid-80's NBA Commissioner David Stern banned the very 1st Jordan sneaker, citing a design rules violation. "His Airness" MJ was fined 5K everytime he stepped on the court with them. Nike gladly paid the fine in exchange for the promotions.. lol.
In late 2003 when I decided to stop "babysitting" and do my own thing with people (or I should say a PERSON) I actually trusted, I soon began to feel like MJ did initially.. WTF!? How come folks I was once very cool with are no longer answering my calls? Damn, how come a station I was virtually created in no longer speaks or.. even worse.. lets me in without being questioned!? Wassup with these producers who now don't wanna finish these records!? ..Can you say BANNED?
Jordans were Banned.. I was told to "Put Yourself Out." In 1985 Michael Jordan stepped onto the court wearing the Black & Red Air Jordan 1's which were banned by the NBA. Nike launched a multi-million dollar campaign selling to the public that these 'Gucci Shoes' were so great that they were illegal. I stepped back onto the scene in 2005 with (my own) new album AND Label. My new home afforded me the opportunity to make history by producing and releasing the world's 1st Worldtape - which single-handedly revived my international prescence.
Despite the changing of the times, the Air Jordan line has managed to survive controversy and changes in the industry while producing a quality product. ...DITTO, Muthafu*kaz!
